There is no better way to celebrate the enduring joys of the Beatles’
White Album than to see and hear this classic album complete, live on
stage. In Sutter Creek we are joined for a cameo by the Beau Brummels’
Sal Valentino, and the White Album will be performed by an all-star cast
which includes guitar virtuoso Laurence Juber from Paul McCartney and
Wings and 90’s hitmaker (“She’s So High”) Tal Bachman, from The Beatles
Channel on Sirius XM. This is the album that Rolling Stone called “the
history and synthesis of Western music” upon its release in November
1968.
The NME said “God Bless You Beatles!”, and Tony Palmer wrote In
London’s Observer that “if there is still any doubt that Lennon and
McCartney are the greatest songwriters since Schubert”, the album
“should surely see the last vestiges of cultural snobbery and bourgeois
prejudice swept away in a deluge of joyful music making”. When a
remastered version was released in 2009, the London Daily Telegraph
reflected the prevailing sentiment, calling it “one of the greatest
albums ever made”.
No singles were released from “The Beatles”, aka The White Album, yet
it’s track listing contains countless classics. “Back In The U.S.S.R.”,
“Revolution”, “Blackbird”, “Yer Blues”, “Dear Prudence”, “Birthday”,
“Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”, “Savoy Truffle”, “Glass Onion”, Helter Skelter”,
“Sexy Sadie” and of course “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” among the
iconic songs you will hear in this complete performance of the Beatles’
White Album”
Our cast…
TAL BACHMAN is the Canadian singer-songwriter and
multi-instrumentalist whose international smash hit “She’s So High”
spent a spectacular 28 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1999. The Juno
award winner (Juno is the Canadian Grammy) joins us on a break from
dates with Bachman-Turner Overdrive, led by his father Randy. Tal and
Randy co-host “Musical Mystery Tour” on SiriusXM’s Beatles Channel.
LAURENCE JUBER is the former lead guitarist from Paul McCartney and
Wings. A two-time Grammy Award winner, his sublime work is recognized by
Guitar World for “A stunning sense of space and fluidity…a truly
wondrous sound” . Pete Townshend has called him “A Master!”, Guitar
Player chimes in that “The melodies, textures and harmonies he coaxes
out of an acoustic guitar are spellbinding” and Acoustic Guitar magazine
named his “LJ Plays the Beatles ” album one of their ten best of all
time. He has over thirty solo albums to his credit, three years with
Wings, and work on soundtracks as varied as “Dirty Dancing”,
“Pocahontas” and “Good Will Hunting”.“
Our Musical Director BILL CINQUE toured for 5 years as bass player in
the Neil Diamond Band. The Manfreds (ie Manfred Mann), Melissa
Manchester, Peter Asher, and a host of others have featured Bill on lead
vocals as well as bass.
Keyboardist STEVE BAUMAN was our MD for Magical Mystery Tour and Let
It Bleed at the Los Angeles Grammy Museum. His endless credits – in the
studio and on tour – include working with artists such as Teena Marie,
Chaka Khan, Thomas Dolby and Michael McDonald. He began working on music
for Film/TV around 2000 and assisted on scores by Stanley Clarke, James
Newton-Howard, and Danny Elfman, as well as scoring and writing songs
for films like Old School, Ice Princess and Deadpool.
Drummer CHRISTOPHER ALLIS toured with Mike Nesmith’s First National
Band, and has backed Deana Carter, Denny Laine, Billy J Kramer, Melissa
Manchester, Maria Muldaur, Kate Taylor, Jeremy Clyde, The Byrds’ John
York, and Fran Healy from Travis among others.
Guitarist DAVID BLASUCCI’s gig credits include work with Bobby
Kimball (TOTO), Melissa Manchester, Bo Diddley, Badfinger, Little
Anthony and countless others. Rod Stewart, Hootie and the Blowfish and
the Eagles’ Glenn Frey are among those who have called on David to open
for them. He made his silver screen debut as a member of the New Main
Street Singers in the Christopher Guest comedy, “A Mighty Wind.”
OUR SPECIAL GUEST ONLY IN SUTTER CREEK: SAL VALENTINO, LEAD SINGER OF
THE BEAU BRUMMELS. Sal was a founding member of the Beau Brummels, from
their early classics “Just A Little” and “Laugh, Laugh”, both recorded
in San Francisco and produced by Sly Stone. Along with the Brummels’
composer guitarist Ron Elliot, Sal created the seminal, final original
Beau Brummels album “Bradley’s Barn” a definitive example of the
“Americana” sound decades before the term existed.
We are especially proud to host Sal Valentino for this event. He
tours infrequently and very selectively, and he last appeared at the
Sutter Creek Theatre May 3, 2008.
The award winning historic Sutter Creek Theatre is an intimate 215
seat former silent film theatre with superb sound. Voted Best Indie
Theatre multiple times (KCRA A-List).
